Being Human

“They are the stuff of your nightmares. And they’re your only hope. ”

Have you ever heard the one about a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost living together? Well for George, Mitchell and Annie, that’s no joke. It’s their life... or afterlife as the case may be. The supernatural trio share a rented house, desperately trying to strike a balance between their paranormal problems and the domestic challenges that regular humans take for granted. All in the hope of achieving the simple pleasure of Being Human. By forcing themselves to assimilate into society, they hope to experience the joys and satisfaction of normality… only they soon realise that “normality” is far more complex and challenging than they ever imagined…

Despite their extraordinary secrets, George, Annie and Mitchell have more in common with humanity than separates them. Annie’s attempts to venture out of the comfort and security of their home are the same as anyone who has lost their confidence. Mitchell’s struggle to resist his vampire hunger is that of someone struggling with addiction. And while not everyone transforms into a ferocious wolf every full moon like George, we all try to suppress our anger only to find it released at the most inopportune moments. It is through the eyes of these outsiders that we can see the brilliance, humour, fragility and complexity of the human condition.

Being Human is a witty, exciting, sexy and extraordinary look at the friendship between three twenty-something outsiders trying to find their way in an enticing yet complicated world. It mixes the mythic with the commonplace, the farcical with the horrific, and the domestic with the epic.

After the success of the Pilot, the six part series of Being Human aired on BBC Three earlier this year.

Being Human has been re-commissioned for a second series and will return to BBC Three in 2010.
